The sophomore album from Ely Guerra, this one takes a dual approach to the music, splitting the album into essentially naughty and nice halves. Within the 'Sweet & Sour' portion, the music remains strong throughout, with thick guitar lines framing Guerra's more sultry vocals (which alternate with stronger runs of force). The focus is relatively soft in general, with some contentment inherent in the sounds. In the 'Hot y Spicy' portion, the focus turns to the more provocative. While the guitars are ramped down in favor of more lush beat structures, the sultriness is amped up, as is the lyrical content. Between the two sides, Guerra shows some pretty worthy abilities in singing as well as songcraft. Complex structures dominate, and make a good case for picking up the album for parties interested in the new waves of Latin pop and rock.
